Q1a. Write an account of the descendants of Holy Prophet (SAW).\10
Ans. Holy Prophet (SAW) had six children from Hazrat Khadija. The first one was Qasim born in Makkah in the 11th year before the revelation. He died in infancy at the age of 2 and is burried in Jannat ul Maula in Makkah. Because of him Prophet (SAW) is known by the kuniyat of Abul Qasim. The second child after Qasim was Zainab, born in Makkah ten years before the revelation. She was married to mother’s nephew Abul Aas before Hijra. She came to Madina after the battle of Badr. She had embraced Islam along with her mother. Her husband came as prisoner in the battle of Badr, was freed on ransom, he asked for money from Hazrat Zainab, she send a necklace gifted to her by Hazrat Khadija and on seeing that, the Prophet (SAW) freed him and returned the necklace. She remained separated from her husband for about four years as he was a non believer and embraced Islam in 6A.H. Hazrat Zainab had a son named Ali and a daughter named Umamah. Hazrat Zainab died in 8A.H in Madina. She was greatly loved by Holy Prohet (SAW), he would keep her along with him even during his prayers and would often give her ride on his shoulders.
Next child after Zainab was Ruqayya, she was born three years before prophethood. She was married to Utba bin Abu Lahab (prophet’s uncle) . When Prophet (SAW) received the first revelation, she was divorced on Abu Lahab’s order. She was then married to Hazrat Uthman. Both migrated to Abyssinia as the first couple for Allah’s sake. She had a son named Abdullah who died at the age of 6 in 4 A.H. She died in 2 A.H when she fell ill at the age of 21.
Umme Kulsoom, third daughter of Holy Prophet (SAW), born in Makkah to Hazrat Khadija. She was first married to Abu Lahab’s son Utiba bin Abu Lahab, but this arrangement was ended when surah Lahab was revealed as it condemned Abu Lahab. She migrated to Madina with her step mother Hazrat Saudah and remained at home until she was married to Hazrat Uthman in 2 A.H after her sister Ruqayya’s death.
The youngest of the four daughters of the Prophet (SAW) was Hazrat Fatimah, born in Makkah to Hazrat Khadija in the third year of prophethood. She looked after the Prophet (SAW) when he was persecuted by the Quraish,would clean the dirt thrown on the Prophet (SAW) while praying in Kaaba, even tended Prophet (SAW) ‘s wounds at the time of battle of Uhad.When her sisters were divorced by their husbands she comforted them. In the 7th year of prophethoodduring the boycott of Banu Hashim she was just a child and showed great patience. She got married to Hazrat Ali in 2 A.H after the battle of Badr and was in her teens. She lived a life of poverty after her marriage. In 3 A.H, Hazrat Hassan was born , in 4A.H Hazrat Hussain was born and in 8A.H, a doughter Zainab was born later a daughter Umme Kulsoom was born. She died 6 months after the death of Holy Prophet (SAW). She is known by the title of Sayyidat un Nisa, meaning leader of the women.She was extremely patient, generous, pious and God fearing. Hazrat Ibrahim was born to Maria Qibtia. He too passeed away in infancy.
